Age-rated music videos and a clampdown on sexual images in newspapers and magazines are among the recommendations of a review into the sexualisation and commercialisation of childhood.
For the entry level on the current line-up, Sony televisions has the 300 and 400 series, divided into four sub series with two sub series each, the BX and the EX. The sizes varies with the smallest having a 22 inch screen to the largest having a 46 inch display. The main differences between the two sub series are the availability of more connectivity and the availability of ambient sensor technology, with the EX having the edge. For example, a new high-performance 42-inch plasma is ENERGY STAR rated at 69 watts, as compared to a similar model in the same screen size that drew 158 watts in 2008 -- a reduction of nearly 60% in power usage. Several 2011 Plasma HDTVs meet the new more stringent ENERGY STAR 5.3 requirements as top performers in their size classes.Reg Bailey, chief executive of the Christian charity Mothers' Union, led the review, which also suggested that parents get a single website to make it easier to complain about programmes or adverts and called for a simpler way of allowing parents to block adult and age-restricted online material."According to CEA's CE MarketMetrics program, U.S. shipments of Plasma TV sets between January and May 2011 topped one million units at a faster clip than last year. CEA's shipment data reports also show the exceptional strength of high-definition 720p technology, which currently accounts for nearly two-thirds of overall Plasma sales," said Steve Koenig, Director of Industry Analysis for the Consumer Electronics Association, which tracks sales from manufacturers into retail stores.
On the aspect of commercialisation, children's commissioner for England Maggie Atkinson said: 'Many of the young people who took part told us they worry about being seen as unable to afford things. The lack of possessions, they felt, can lead to bullying.'
