LG Televisions: Pioneering the Development of Consumer Electronics

Regarded as the second largest producer of TV sets worldwide, this distinction does not come as a surprise. When LG Electronics was born, it initially delved into the production of television sets and produced black and white television sets for domestic sale. Then known under the Goldstar brand, the LG tag came much later and today, it is one of the leaders in the production and development of Digital TV technology.

Plus, current LG Televisions has some models on the premium levels which has been THX certified. Both in their LED and Plasma TV, THX represents quality like no other, its what cinematic quality is all about. And with such certification on their imaging quality, you are sure that you are getting a TV beyond compare.First off, LG Televisions that are presently produced come in a variety of models depending on the features and technologies they have. The higher end models have received the LED enhancing technology, this is basically an LCD TV that has been installed with LED backlighting to enhance the image quality output, some models have full LED and others have only the LED technology. Then there is the regular LCD TV with the CCFL backlighting which has some models at the entry level, this series remains as some of the bestsellers in the market today. Then there is the Plasma TV, the higher contrast TV that has still remained the pinnacle in large screen TV viewing. To add more to this line-up, LG has added 3D capability to some of the models, mainly on their LED and Plasma TV line-up on the premium series. This multitude of technology and enhancements is what made LG Televisions extremely popular. Aside from being a true HDTV with some of the clearest, sharpest, most vibrant colours, smooth transition, and the finely detailed images that can be seen in flat screen panel TVs today, they also have some of the most stunning and impressive designs that is being offered on their LG Televisions. Many of their LED TV has a design that pushes the boundaries, literally. The LG LED TV has a seamless design and an ultra slim body that can easily enthral any visitor to your home. It doesnt only look good when its turned on, it also looks enchanting when its turned off. With their new LED TV, LG has been able to seemingly travel to the future and bring back TV design and engineering to our time. The LG Plasma TV is also something to behold, both in sight and in sound. Design wise, it looks sleek and sexy with its slim ultra thin casing, and inside is a wonderland of innovative features which includes the TruBlack Filter to enhance the contrast, a 600Hz refresh rate for smoother imaging, and LGs Dual XD Engine for exceptional accuracy in colour, clarity beyond belief, and superior resolution.

Plus, current LG Televisions has some models on the premium levels which has been THX certified. Both in their LED and Plasma TV, THX represents quality like no other, its what cinematic quality is all about. Differences betwen LCD and Plasma TVs

Plasma and LCD panels may look similar, but the flat screen and thin profile is where the similarities end. There are a number of significant differences between the two.

Power Usage: LCD TVs use on average half of the power Plasma TVs useWeight: LCD TVs are considerably lighter and as such easier to mount and install. So Plasma TVs will almost likely require a professional installer.1. Excellent Brightness - Plasma TVs don't rely on a light bulb shining through or reflecting off of something (as an LCD or DLP system does). Plasma brightness is even better than CRT's in some ways because the picture is evenly bright across the entire screen.4. Inherently Progressive - LCDs use millions of tiny transistors that can be individually controlled by the "brains" inside the display. So LCDs can easily handle progressive-scan sources.1. Excellent Color Reproduction - LCDs can display millions of colors accurately.High altitude performance: High altitudes can affect the performance of plasma TV displays because the gas held inside each pixel is stressed, and has to work harder to perform. SoLCD TVs are better at high altitude (6500 feet and above).4. Poor reproduction of black - Plasma TVs fall short in the realm of reproducing black images. Most plasmas do slightly better job than LCD TVs at black reproduction, but they fall short of CRTs and some projection systems.2. Multi-functional - LCD TVs have a plethora of connectivity options. They typically include inputs for composite video, S-video, High Definition Multimedia Interface(HDMI) and PC In.5. High Resolution - LCDs can display High Definition content with resolutions of 1366x768. The highest resolution achieved in a LCD is 1920x1080. 1080p is also called Full High Definition whereas 720p is called High Definition.4. Slow Response Time - LCDs have longer response times than Plasmas. For example, when moving the mouse too fast on an LCD, multiple cursors can sometimes be seen. This is also known as Ghosting Effect. But this problem seems to have been addressed with the latest LCD TVs with response times as low as 8ms.3. Less-than-perfect color reproduction - Although plasma displays can produce a breathtaking array of colors, a lot of sets have the unfortunate tendency to make red colors look more orange than true red.Plasma TVs - The Good1. Burn-In - Plasmas rely on phosphor to display video. This can cause Burn-In where ghost images are permanently burned into the screen.2. Poor Reproduction of Blacks - LCD TVs tend to produce grays, not blacks.Plasma TVs - The BadPricing: Plasma TVs are still significantly less expensive than LCD in sizes over 32".Let us understand the meaning of Plasma and LCD Televisions in order to better understand the differences between them.LCD TVs - The Bad2. Short Lifespan - Another phenomenon of any phosphor-based display system is that eventually the phosphors "wear out" or lose their brightness. This is a subtle and slow process, but it inevitably happens.LCD TV uses LCD technology for its visual output. Liquid Crystal Display or LCD is a thin, flat display device made up of a number of color or monochrome pixels arrayed infront of a light source or reflector. In color LCDs each individual pixel is divided into three cells or subpixels which are colored red, green and blue. Each cell or subpixel can be controlled independently to yield thousands or millions of possible colors for each pixel. LCD TVs can make for excellent High Definition TV viewing.Other factors such as pricing, weight, power usage, high altitude performance and transportation are other considerations that apply on a person to person basis. So I will briefly just state the overall differences in these areas.3. Limited Viewing Angle - LCDs have typically poor viewing angle. However, there has been a drastic improvement on this front with latest LCDs achieving a wide viewing angle of 178 degrees.Because technology in both Plasma and LCD TVS is advancing rapidly we may find some of these differences (such as size) very minimal in the near future.LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY TELEVISION (LCD TV).A plasma screen contains literally millions of gas-filled cells (each one acting as a single image pixel) trapped between two pieces of glass. An electrical grid zaps these cells and causes the gases to ionize (and ionized gas is plasma - hence the name). The ionized gases, in turn, cause a layer of phosphor on the viewer's side layer of glass to light up. Plasma TVs combine a thin, compact chassis with a truly large screen size. Despite their compact dimensions Plasmas are available in 42+, 50+ and even 60+ inch sizes.LCD TVs - The Good3. No Burn In - With LCDs there is no problem of Burn In. Some TVs that rely on phosphors such as Plasmas and CRTs can experience Burn In where ghost images are permanently burned into the screen.1. Expensive - LCD TVs are great but they are not cheap. LCD TVs cost more per inch than plasmas.Transportation: LCD TVs are lighter and far less fragile than plasma displays making shipping easier and less expensive.PLASMA TELEVISION3. Progressive in nature - All the pixels on the screen light up simultaneously. You can have progressive HDTV sources (such as 720p) and non-HDTV sources (such as progressive-scan DVD players) displayed to full advantage on a plasma HDTV.5. Low Contrast Ratio - Contrast Ratio is the ratio of the intensity of the brightest bright to the darkest dark. LCDs comparitively have lower Contrast Ratios than Plasmas.4. Wide Viewing Angle - Plasmas have a wider viewing angle as compared to LCDs. Plasma displays have a good picture even when you're sitting "off axis" (not perpendicular to the screen surface). This is a huge benefit for smaller rooms, where viewers may sit relatively far off to the sides of the screen, at wider angles.

Because technology in both Plasma and LCD TVS is advancing rapidly we may find some of these differences (such as size) very minimal in the near future.

Braveheart (DVD) Review

Long before The Passion of the Christ, Mel Gibson directed another cinematic masterpiece, Braveheart. Filmed against the backdrop of majestic mountains and rolling meadows, it tells the historically-based (yet not entirely accurate) story of William Wallace, a common mans warrior who led the Scottish people in rebellion against King Edward I, also known as Longshanks. Written by Randall Wallace, an American tourist fascinated with a Scottish statue of his namesake, the script collected dust in Hollywood for over a decade before Gibson made the brilliant decision to put it on the big screen. Just like The Passion, its a decision he would not regret.

Set in the 11th Century, Braveheart catalogues the struggle of Scottish serfs who labor under the brutal oppression of English occupation forces. Amidst these terrible conditions, William Wallace (Mel Gibson) falls in love with Murron MacClannough (Catherine McCormack). Insistent on not sharing his wife (a proclamation by the king gives local rulers first-night rights to new brides) Wallace secretly marries Murron. Nevertheless, an English knight assaults her, sparking a fight with Wallace. Fleeing the village, Wallace believes Murron has escaped and will soon meet him at a secret rendezvous point. But Murron is captured and executed by the kings emissaries.Angered by his wifes murder, Wallace instigates a local rebellion, slaughtering all the kings loyalists in his village. As his rebellion grows, a distraught Longshanks (Patrick McGoohan) dispatches his fabled Northern Army to destroy it. But the heroic Wallace delivers a stirring speech to rouse his men, while deploying an ingenious battlefield trick to defeat the kings cavalry. With elaborate costumes, vivid battle scenes, and a noble hero as its focal point, Braveheart is more than your typical run-of-the-mill action movie. Part history, part Hollywood heroism its timeless idealism strikes a cord with every viewer. In fact, the movie itself led to a revival in nationalistic pride that fueled the successful Scottish independence movement of the 1990s. Its a testament to the strength and character of the real life William Wallace. A thousand years later, his enduring legacy continues to transform the European landscape, and Mel Gibson captures the noble warriors passion with an awe-inspiring Academy Award-winning masterpiece.

Star Trek (Season 2) DVD Review

Nominated for four Emmys, including Outstanding Dramatic Series two times in its short three-year stint, Star Trek is a true legend of television history. The brainchild of former L.A. policeman Gene Roddenberry, the show premiered in Fall 1966 only to be cancelled after three seasons due to lackluster ratings. But it may well have been NBC's network executives who were the cause of the low ratings as they allotted a less than desirable time slot for the show. When Star Trek moved into syndication, its reruns captured the science-fiction imagination of an entirely new audience, catapulting the Star Trek franchise to new heights. Its newfound popularity would, in the decades to come, spawn novels, comic books, six full-length feature films, and reams of merchandise as fans clamored for anything Star Trek-related. Beginning in the 1980's, spin-offs of the show began to appear such as Star Trek: The Animated Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Enterprise

Concerned, Kirk orders a full medical examination and learns that Spock is experiencing the instinctual mating patterns of a Vulcan and must return to his home planet immediately in order to avoid death. When they arrive, Spock's chosen mate challenges the pairing, prompting a duel between Spock and the man of her choosing. Kirk is chosen, and he and Spock are forced to fight to the death Other notable episodes from Season 2 include "Metamorphosis" in which the Enterprise encounters a mysterious force known as The Companion which is in love with a human, and "Patterns of Force" in which the crew of the Enterprise visits a planet resembling the society of 20th Century Nazi GermanyEpisode 49 (Return to Tomorrow) Air Date: 02-09-1968Episode 63 (For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky) Air Date: 11-08-1968Episode 42 (Obsession) Air Date: 12-15-1967Star Trek, the original TV series, follows the adventurous exploits of the crew of the U.S.S. Kirk is joined by Lt. Commander Spock (Leonard Nimoy), a Vulcan-born retired commander and theoretical scientist. Chief medical officer Dr. Leonard McCoy (DeForest Kelley) rounds out the main cast of Star Trek which includes a plethora of supporting crew with multiple guest appearances and cameo roles. Together, the crew of U.S.S. Enterprise seeks to carry out its mission: "to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations" It's this pioneering attitude, coupled with imaginative sci-fi worlds, that provides Star Trek with its nostalgic allure - especially these episodes from the original TV series, widely regarded as the most popular of all the TV seriesEpisode 79 (Turnabout Intruder) Air Date: 06-03-1969Episode 38 (Metamorphosis) Air Date: 11-10-1967Below is a list of episodes included on the Star Trek (Season 2) DVD:Professional wrestling, most commonly seen in the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) competition has been popular for many years in the United Kingdom but has managed to keep many fans who first encountered the sport as a child well into adulthood. In the same vein as mixed martial arts, professional wrestling is challenging boxing as a popular contact sport. The appearance of scripted story lines and fights, together with brand name fighters and famous participants has led to a strong cult-like following which shows no signs of weakening.Mixed Martial Arts is another example of a relatively new global sport that has become popular back home in Great Britain. Focussing primarily on the Ultimate Fighting Championship, or UFC, mixed martial arts (MMA) is steadily replacing the sport of Boxing as a favourite combat sport among many British people. Such a growing fan base and UK tours of events, together with UK venue events, merchandise and media coverage has meant that in the near future Mixed Martial Arts may overtake boxing as the primary combat sport seen on our TVs, which may radically alter the sporting world.Episode 71 (The Mark of Gideon) Air Date: 01-17-1969Episode 34 (The Apple) Air Date: 10-13-1967Episode 46 (A Piece of the Action) Air Date: 01-12-1968Episode 72 (That Which Survives) Air Date: 01-24-1969Episode 73 (The Lights of Zetar) Air Date: 01-31-1969American Football is a prime example of a relatively new sport gaining ground in England and Britain. The main competition available to England's fans is the NFL, one of the biggest world American Football organisations. During the regular and post seasons matches can be found on pay per view TV channels as well as late night specials on free to air channels. Increasing knowledge of the rules and stars of American football has led to a growing NFL and American Football following on this side of the Atlantic. Both evidence and a partial cause for this is seen in the few NGL matches that have been played at Wembley Stadium in the UK.
